Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Creamy and Flavorful Meal: The rich cream of mushroom soup and delicious seasonings mixed with the rice and pork chops make this a hearty meal that is packed with flavor.
- Budget-Friendly: Pork chops are relatively inexpensive, especially when you find them on sale at the grocery store. That makes this meal perfect for a family on a budget looking to switch up their dinner options.
- Minimal Effort Required: This is a true dump-and-go meal! Just add the ingredients to the slow cooker and come back to tender, juicy pork chops and creamy rice a few hours later.
Ingredients
- Long Grain White Rice: Regular long-grain white rice is best for this recipe because it cooks along with the pork chops and won’t overcook quickly.
- Yellow Onion: Add a little sweetness and flavor with a finely diced yellow onion.
- Boneless Pork Chops: This cut of pork is versatile and cooks into a tender and flavorful meat that’s perfect for a variety of meals. Boneless pork chops are the easiest cut of meat to use for this recipe.
- Ranch Seasoning Mix: Give this rice and pork chops meal a little zing with a packet of Ranch seasoning. It will add so much flavor to the meal!
- Cream of Mushroom Soup: Make your pork chops with rice creamy and packed with flavor with a can of cream of mushroom soup.
- Chicken Broth: Instead of water, use chicken broth as the main liquid. The rice will absorb the broth and taste even more delectable.
- Garlic: Add an extra zesty bit of flavor with minced garlic. You can use fresh garlic or jarred garlic.
- Cheddar Cheese: Melted cheese makes this casserole-like dish taste even more amazing.
- Seasonings: No recipe is complete without a few seasonings, so use a bit of black pepper, paprika, and dried thyme to round out the flavors of this one.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Different Condensed Cream Soups: If you don’t like cream of mushroom soup, or just don’t have it in your pantry, you can use a different cream soup. Try cream of chicken, cream of celery, or cream of onion soups instead. They have the same texture, but slightly different flavors.
- Add Vegetables: Mix some veggies into this slow cooker pork chops and rice recipe for a full meal. Mushrooms, carrots, and peas all taste amazing in this dish. You can also add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables in the last hour of cooking.
- Try an Onion Soup Packet: Instead of ranch seasoning, use a packet of onion soup seasoning instead. The flavor will be more rich as opposed to zesty and tangy, but still delicious.
- Use Different Types of Rice: Try changing the flavor of the recipe with a different kind of rice. This recipe is great with brown rice or wild rice, but you may need to add more liquid to them. Be sure to check the cooking directions for the right ratios!
How to Make Pork Chops and Rice in the Crock Pot
Pork chops are a classic dinner staple, but they can be a bit of work to prepare. This recipe for pork chops and rice in the slow cooker eliminates the work and leaves you with a rich, hearty meal.
- Step 1: Add the Rice and Pork Chops. Spread the uncooked rice and diced yellow onion along the bottom of a 6-quart crock pot. Place the pork chops directly over the rice to help keep it submerged while cooking.
- Step 2: Prepare the Sauce. Whisk the cream of mushroom soup, ranch seasoning mix, chicken broth, and seasonings together. Pour the mixture over the top.
- Step 3: Let it Cook. Secure the lid on the crock pot and cook on high for 2½ - 3½ hours or on low for 5-6 hours.
- Step 4: Add the Cheese. In the last 15 minutes of cooking time, sprinkle cheese over the top of the dish. Then replace the cover and cook until the cheese is melted. Serve with a little fresh parsley on top.
Expert Tips
- Cook on High: For the best results, this pork chop and rice recipe should be cooked on high for 2½ - 3 ½ hours. The rice cooks better at higher heat for less time. Cooking it on low increases the chances that the rice will turn mushy.
- Sear the Pork for More Flavor: Lock in more of the flavor of the pork chops and sear them before adding them to the slow cooker. Heat a skillet with a bit of oil over medium heat. Once it’s hot, add the pork chops and let them develop of golden brown crust on both sides. It should only take 2-3 minutes on each side, but adds so much flavor!
- Use Pork Loin to Save Money: Pork chops may get a little pricey if they aren’t on sale. If you want to save money and have more meat, slice a pork loin into equal sections and use those instead. Don’t use the full loin uncut because it will change the cooking time too much.
- Fully Cook the Pork: Always check the temperature of the meat before serving it! The safe internal temperature of pork is 145 degrees Fahrenheit and the temp for well-done pork is 160 degrees. I prefer my pork chops well done, but they should always be at least 145 degrees.
Storage Directions
- Storing: Keep any leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. I don’t recommend freezing this whole dish because the texture of the rice isn’t great after freezing and reheating. You can freeze just the pork chops for up to 3 months though!
- Reheating: Reheat the dish in the microwave for 60-second intervals until it is heated through or in a skillet on the stove. You may need to add a splash of water to keep the rice soft. Be sure to thaw frozen pork chops for 24 hours in the refrigerator before reheating them.

- Pair these pork chops with rice with green beans, Brussel sprouts, or a fresh green salad. You could also serve it with green bean casserole.
- Rolls, garlic bread, and focaccia go well with this recipe because the sauce tastes so good you’ll want to scrape your plate completely clean!

Recipe FAQs
This recipe is similar to the texture and consistency of a casserole, so the rice won’t be fluffy. Instead, the rice will have a creamier texture.
If you prefer to use Minute rice or parboiled rice, wait and add the rice in the last 30 minutes of cooking. You will also need to cut the amount of chicken broth you use in half since Minute rice is precooked and won’t absorb much of the liquid.
This slow cooker pork chops with rice recipe is perfect for boneless pork chops or bone-in pork chops! The meat is so tender it will fall off the bone, but the bones add extra flavor as they cook and the fat renders. Be sure to adjust the cooking time if you're using bone-in chops, they take a bit longer to cook.
If you aren’t a fan of pork, you can make this dish with chicken instead. Boneless chicken breasts or boneless chicken thighs would be ideal for this recipe.
