From scratch peach cobbler is the best! At least that's what I always thought. But why spend all that time in the kitchen making one when you can combine a Crock pot AND a cake mix, two of my favorite short-cuts, to make a peach cobbler with cake mix that tastes like you spent hours making it?!?
I love that it makes a large enough batch to take along to a potluck, party, or cookout and you can easily double it if you need to serve even more! All you do is dump your peaches, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in and then sprinkle the cake mix and butter over the top. It's as easy as pie! Well, cobbler.

Why You’ll Love This Slow Cooker Peach Cobbler Recipe
- All-Occasion Dessert. This dessert is perfect for any time you're craving a special treat after any home-cooked meal but it's also great for a family get-together or cookout. Since it uses canned fruit, you can enjoy it any time of year.
- So Simple. You only need SIX ingredients and five minutes to assemble it! Then the crock pot does all the work to transform it into fresh baked cobbler.
- Clean Up is a Breeze. Just one dish to clean up! No bowl or bowls for mixing! Just make sure to spray it first or use a liner to save time on washing!
Ingredients
- Yellow Cake Mix: Feel free to grab your favorite brand. I've tried most and they all work well!
- Sliced Peaches in 100% Juice: Make sure to buy canned peaches in JUICE and not syrup. We will be adding the juice to the crock pot and you don't want it to be overly sweet by using syrup instead.
- Brown Sugar: Adds more depth of flavor than regular sugar thanks to the molasses added to brown sugar which gives its darker color. I highly recommend not swapping it for granulated sugar. You can use light or dark brown sugar.
- Cinnamon and Nutmeg: Add warmth and sweet spiced flavors to the cobbler.
- Butter: The rich and creamy flavor of butter is the best! It provides flavor but also adds moisture to the cake mix turning it into the classic cobbler crust. I don't recommend using margarine unless that's all you have.
Variations
- Use a Different Cake Mix: Yellow is the classic but you can also make your cobbler with a white cake mix for a similar outcome. Or change it up completely with a spice cake mix, French vanilla, or butter-flavored cake mix.
- Different Canned Fruit: If you're not in the mood for peaches, you can use other canned fruits in juice.
How To Make Peach Cobbler In the Crock Pot

- Step 3: Add butter. Evenly place the pats of butter over the top of the cake mix.
- Step 4: Cook. Cover with the lid and cook on high for 2½ to 3 hours.
- Step 5: Serve. Enjoy your peach cobbler warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!
How To Store & Reheat
This peach cobbler is best enjoyed fresh, but that doesn't mean you can't store the leftovers. Here's the best way to store it to enjoy a second (or third) time around!
- Store: Transfer the leftovers to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to two days.
- Reheat: Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 60-90 minutes, stirring halfway through. If it is not warm enough, stir and continue to heat in 15-second increments. For larger amounts, you can transfer them to a baking dish and reheat in the oven at 350° F for 10 minutes or so.
Serving Suggestions
Peach cobbler goes hand in hand with vanilla ice cream though I think caramel ice cream or peach ice cream would pair well too! Whipped cream is another favorite topping in my house especially with a little bit of salted caramel syrup drizzled on top.
This dessert is perfect for serving a crowd, so sometimes we carry it along to a friend's house or to a potluck. At home, this dessert makes a delicious end to just about any meal but especially home-cooked favorites like Slow Cooker Ham, Country Style Pork Ribs, and Slow Cooker Shepherd's Pie.
Expert Tips
- Space Out the Butter. Make sure you space the pats of butter evenly over the cake mix so that it all gets moistened during cooking.
- Serving for a Party? Turn the crock pot to warm to keep the cobbler heated up! It definitely tastes better warm than at room temperature.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, I always recommend either lining or spraying your slow cooker. This keeps the food from sticking in the corners, which can be difficult to clean. You will thank me later, I promise!
No, not really. This recipe is best made with canned peaches which come peeled and with the right amount of juice in the can to make this cobbler.
Nope! For this recipe, you can use whichever cake mix brand that you prefer. I have used Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and even store brands, and they all turned out delicious.

This was fantastic, and so easy. I didn't have nutmeg but it was great even without that ingredient. I tasted it after 2-1/2 hours and it was quite good. I turned the crock-pot setting to warm and tried some again 2 hours later and it was even better - much better. I'll be making this again!
Ryan Allen
I am so glad that you enjoyed it.
