Why You’ll Love This Crock Pot Garlic Parmesan Chicken
- Easy to Make. A quick prep of the potatoes and chicken and then everything goes into the slow cooker to cook. It leaves you free to do other more important things!
- All the Components of a Great Meal. From lean protein, to cheese and potatoes, this dish delivers zesty flavors you're going to love.
- Flexible. Serve it up for a weeknight meal or serve it up to friends coming to dinner on the weekend.
- Less Than 10 Ingredients. It only takes a handful of simple ingredients to make making it easy and budget-friendly at the same time.
Ingredients
- Yukon Gold Petite Potatoes: These potatoes are my favorite because all you need to do is quarter them plus they cook up tender and delicious in the crock pot without falling apart. Feel free to use any size of potatoes you have on hand and just cut them into the proper size.
- Chicken Breasts: You want to use boneless so you can easily cut it into bite-size pieces. I've also used chicken tenderloins from time to time cut into pieces. Chicken thighs make a budget-friendly option and work well in this dish too.
- Cream cheese: Use full-fat plain cream cheese for the best flavor. Be sure to cut into chunks so it melts more easily as it cooks.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic enhances the garlic flavors in the sauce. I prefer fresh or jarred for the best flavor.
- Parmesan cheese: This earthy umami-packed cheese intensifies the parmesan flavor in the sauce.
- Garlic parmesan sauce: I love Buffalo Wild Wings' sauce but feel free to use your favorite brand.
- Milk: Thins out the sauce. You can use any type of dairy or non-dairy milk you prefer. Just make sure it's not flavored or sweetened.
- Mozzarella cheese: Makes it more cheesy both in flavor and texture.
See the recipe card below for the full ingredient list and exact quantities of each ingredient.
Flavor Variations
- Spicy: Add a big kick of heat and flavor with a pinch of red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or a drizzle of Sriracha or Tabasco.
- Swap the Chicken Breasts: Boneless pork chops work great in place of the chicken.
- Add Some Veggies: Add some broccoli, sliced mushrooms, onions, or green beans. I suggest adding them in the last 30-45 minutes of cooking. You can also add some spinach or kale but I recommend stirring it in just before adding the cheese.
- Change Up the Mozzarella: Use another cheese such as Cheddar, Montery Jack, or Gouda.

This hearty, delicious dish is a full meal on its own, so feel free to skip the sides and go straight to dessert for a sweet finish to your meal. This crockpot peach cobbler, blueberry cobbler, and apple cobbler all make great options.
Expert Tips
- Uniform Pieces. Make sure the potatoes and chicken into bite-size chunks for even cooking and easy eating.
- Storing: Store the leftovers for up to 3 days in an airtight container. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months though the texture may change. The dairy may become slightly grainy after freezing but will still be tasty.
- Cream Cheese: Make sure it's room temperature and cut into even chunks so it melts more easily in the sauce.
- Thinner Sauce: Feel free to add some milk or broth at the end of cooking to thin it out if the sauce is thicker than you prefer.
Recipe FAQs
You can use garlic alfredo sauce in a pinch if you can't find garlic parmesan sauce. It will create a similar flavor profile.
There are a couple ways you can reheat. Return it to the slow cooker and cook for about an hour or until heated through. You can also reheat individual slices in the microwave or a larger amount in a saucepan on the stove. You may need to add a bit of milk when reheating if it's thickened during storage.
